Plumbing & HVAC Construction for Nashville’s Central Wastewater Treatment Plant

JBS was selected to perform the plumbing & HVAC scope of the “Balance of Plant” project at the Central Waste Water Treatment Plant (CWWTP). This project for Nashville’s Metro Water Services is a part of the larger Capacity Improvements and CSO Reduction project.

The massive $400M upgrade aims to reduce overflow frequency and volume by increasing the capacity of the Central Pump Station as well as increasing the CWWTP’s wet weather treatment capacity from 330 million gallons per day (MGD) to 400 MGD.

Since the Plant’s construction in 1958, it has undergone four major expansions. The last expansion being in 1990. Since then, the Nashville metropolitan population has nearly doubled in size. Thanks to this new expansion, all Nashville residents will benefit from the improved water system. Additionally, a dog park, green space, and a water feature will be on-property and available to the public. For more information, click here.

JBS worked with other on-site contractors and the engineers to model the project in 3D Revit, in order to identify any potential clashes long before the construction began.

JBS was selected in a competitive bid to work with Brasfield & Gorrie to perform this work over a three-year time frame. Brown & Caldwell served as the design consultant, and project specifications required an extensive Building Information Process (BIM).

The scope required work in several existing and new structures, including multiple fluid cooling systems for the treatment process, HVAC for process equipment, and other plumbing and HVAC installations. Our technicians coordinated with the owner and general contractor to ensure that the treatment process remained uninterrupted, as new equipment and systems were installed. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2023.
