TCAT Nissan Training Center: Compressed Air System
When the Tennessee College of Applied Technology built their new, state-of-the-art Smyrna Campus and Nissan Training Center, JBS was hired to supply and install the compressed air system that the student training labs depend upon. Working for design engineers, IC Thomasson, we installed two, 25hp, Gardner Denver Reward Series, reciprocating air compressors which provide air for the training/testing labs. Providing the full system package, JBS also installed a Parker air dryer, an extensive filtration system and the necessary piping to connect into the main header.
The $35 million TCAT facility is adjacent to the Nissan plant in Smyrna and was completed in 2017. Through the training center, TCAT provides courses in automobile technology, electric and small diesel repair, collision repair, welding, machine tool, tool and die, and industrial electrical maintenance and mechatronics. At the grand opening, Governor Haslam said, “We want to be known as a state that makes things.” He noted that it’s important to provide training that prepares people for jobs at Nissan and other companies. “We want to make sure you have that opportunity.” Chancellor Tydings thanked the Governor and Nissan for making the facility possible: “But more important than the bricks and mortar…and equipment of this facility is the impact that it will have on the thousands of Tennesseans…who will enroll here and learn new skills. This facility will enhance the lives of Tennessee families for decades and decades,” she said. Click to view an opening ceremony video.
For decades and decades, we at JBS have counted it a high privilege and responsibility to partner in building and sustaining the hardworking infrastructure of institutions such as TCAT, which enhance the lives of families across the Mid-South.
